Chakra Series: Throat

Read on to learn about the Throat Chakra:

The name, Visuddha means "purification." The element is ETHER or SOUND. It is located in the throat, neck, shoulders, arms, and hands. It is your voice and sense of expression through verbal and non-verbal communication.

The throat chakra synthesizes formless thoughts and ideas from the ether into symbols that can be shared with others. It also gives name and expression to the feelings of truth that are held in the body. Through communication, we are able to connect with others in the dance of life.

Here are a few ways to explore the state of your Throat Chakra:

  • Move your body - focus on moving, strengthening, or stretching through the shoulders, arms, collar bones, neck and throat. Think neck rolls, shoulder shrugs, etc. (I have a whole yoga sequence to bring ease to this area!)

  • Find a quiet space and simply listen. Notice all the tiny sounds you hear as you attune yourself to the more subtle vibrations that surround you.

  • Use your voice! Practice mantra chanting, sing, hum, speak, sigh. Allow your voice to express your inner emotions without judging or trying to control. Witness the freedom you feel as you let your voice flow.

  • Listen to healing sounds - crystal bowls, binaural beats, ocean waves, sounds of nature, etc. Healing vibrations and frequencies affect you on a cellular level to promote overall wellbeing.

  • Pay attention to the works you speak. Do they express your true thoughts and feelings? When do you try to hide your true self with your words or tone of voice? How can you let your truth shine through?
